In Search of the Spiritual

Newsweek article on the rise of spirituality in the USA. Pretty good article. What do you think?

It is a very interesting article. There is definitely a wave of spirituality in America but I believe it is the same rejection of Christ wrapped in a new box. People want to feel and expereince God without Christ and that is not possible, yet I feel that people would be more open to Christs message if we(so called Christians) represented it well. The examples given of the different people searching for God seemed satisfied with what they had yet they, not Christ, worked hard for their findings. In the buffet of religions before me give me Christ and nothing else.

This article certainly explains why America is in such a mess. Anything goes. Did I miss it, or was there no mention of Scripture? But then, what can one expect when a liberal mag tries to write about God.

Carol - maybe it does explain why our country's in a mess (though from the perspective of people here in the UK and in other parts of Europe, America is a mess because people bother to seek God at all - not because we do it apart from Jesus). But I think the key thing to see is that the desires and mindset of people in our country have changed, and this means great opportunity for the gospel. I loved the interaction with the scholar who had boldly proclaimed the wholesale rejection of God by people, because it showed how wrong the pundits got it. I think Aaron's right in saying that people seem satisfied with their findings, but I also am encouraged by this, because it means that just as many people are still seeking, dissatisfied with their current experience of God. And that's the whole point of Jesus & his Kingdom - reconciling all creation with their creator.
